Mos Def Live At Chicago
Mos Def Live At Chicago's Congress Theater

Making good on his promise to return to Chicago after a scheduling conflict kept him from getting here in January, Mos Def showed up at the Congress Theater on February 13th, to rock a sold-out crowd. I caught Mos backstage during soundcheck while the masses started a line outside that stretched for blocks and blocks. Before I could even ask him about it, Mos pulled his new favorite thing, his custom painted Red Super 55 Shure mic, from the depths of his overcoat and proceeded to sing its praises. While I heard rumors that Mos Def travels with this mic in his pocket, I finally confirmed it. From the side of the stage, I watched as Mos warmed up with a few classic cuts spanning his catalog, including a few tracks from the Blackroc project. After dropping off a few SRH750DJ headphones for his DJs, I hit the crowd just in time for the show to begin.
