How To Verify A Successful Conference Room Audio Install (Stem RoomCheck)

 

Picture this, you’ve just finished installing your conference room audio and now it’s time to make sure you’ve successfully installed the system. Typically, people would have to phone a friend and walk around the room saying, “Can you hear me over here? How about here?” to see if the coverage is not only sufficient for the room but also if the audio even sounds good. Well, the thing about audio is that it is extremely subjective. Meaning that audio that may sound perfect and crystal clear to one person may sound horrible to another. So, really there was no objective way to verify a job well done.

 

The Objective Approach

 

To forever solve that issue, we created Stem RoomCheck. This is a tool we designed to give you an objective way to test your room’s audio coverage to verify a successful installation. By listening to your voice, the noise in the room, and measuring the reverberation that your room acoustics produce, RoomCheck generates a heatmap highlighting the expected audio quality for different areas in the room.

 

How RoomCheck Works

 

After you’ve installed your devices in your room and assigned them to a room in the ecosystem platform you can use other tools in the ecosystem to customize your conference room audio. Before you can run RoomCheck there are a few things you need to do first. First, you’ll need to run RoomAdapt because your devices will use information from RoomAdapt in the RoomCheck test. Next, you’ll want to make sure you have a design created for the room and then you’ll need to add the devices in the same location in the design as they are in your room. This will help create the most accurate heatmap possible. If you see a green exclamation point next to devices in your design that means that your devices are assigned to the room but still need to be placed in your design before you can run RoomCheck. Then, once all of that is taken care of you can go ahead and run RoomCheck.

 

 

How To Run RoomCheck

 

To initiate RoomCheck you’ll need to first access the ecosystem platform via Stem Control, the app for Android, iOS, and Windows, or through the HTML version. Once you’ve accessed the platform select ECOSYSTEM then go into ROOMS, and select the room you want to run RoomCheck in and select EDIT LAYOUT. Again, it’s important to note that your Stem devices need to match the location in your RoomDesign. Then press the RoomCheck button and speak for five seconds. Once the recording is complete, a color-coordinated heat-map highlighting the audio quality for different areas in the room will appear.

 

How to Read Your Heatmap

 

Your heatmap will show you the varying ranges of audio coverage in your room by color variations. Wherever you see green on your heatmap you know you’re fully covered. In areas where you see yellow, you still have enough coverage, and red zones show you spots where you could use a little more coverage. After you’ve completed RoomCheck your heatmap will be saved to your room profile so you can refer back to it whenever you need to remember the coverage of the room.
