Important
- If you have installed Shure Designer, you need to update to Designer v4.3 or higher before installing Microflex Wireless Software.
- Simultaneous runtime operation of Microflex Wireless Software with Shure Wireless Workbench is not supported, but both may be installed on the same computer.
- If the desired NIC is not selectable during the software installation, or does not show up in runtime in the Settings of Microflex Wireless Software, ensure the interface is enabled and is active (i.e. Ethernet cable plugged in & has activity LED’s)
- Update any MXW devices which are below the minimum supported firmware 8.0.3 by using the Shure Update Utility (SUU) found here. Close the SUU when complete.
Notable workflow differences from MXW legacy Flash User Interface
- Prior to setup, a passphrase is required to initialize the device(s) (MXWAPT, MXWANI). The passphrase will be applied to all discovered devices which need initialization. This passphrase must be entered to access the devices. As in the Flash UI, all MXWAPTs in a configuration share a passphrase but each MXWANI’s passphrase is independent.
- MXWNCS networked chargers do not require authentication, so users will be able to change device properties without logging in.
- If you are accessing MXW devices across subnets with Shure Software Update Utility on the same machine while Microflex Wireless Software is running, cross-subnet MXW devices may be discovered, but control and monitoring is not supported. This differs from the legacy Flash UI where it was possible to access any routable MXW IP address on the network by manually entering its IP address in a browser. Shure SystemOn Audio Asset Management Software is recommended for cross-subnet monitoring and control. Click here for information.
- *See chart below for a comparison of Microflex Wireless software and SystemOn software controls.
- Double-click the MXWNCS from the Devices view to set the charger’s IP addresses as well as other device properties. The legacy workflow of setting charger device properties from the MXWAPT’s Utility tab remains supported.
- Language selection is done in the Settings tab of Microflex Wireless Software.
- Shure Device Discovery software is no longer needed for typical setups. Microflex Wireless Software displays the discovered devices in the Devices view.
- The “Lock Configuration” feature available in the MXW legacy Flash user interface has been removed in Microflex Wireless Software.
- In the Devices view, “Configuration Status” is introduced. New/uninitialized MXWAPTs are designated “OPEN”. After setup, each MXWAPT configuration will have 1 “Primary” MXWAPT, and up to 9 “Secondary” MXWAPTs. Sorting by Primary is a convenience for larger MXW deployments. Note also that the Primary APT is the device which is initially viewed when opening any of the Secondary MXWAPTs in the same configuration.
Known Issues
- In some network scenarios with larger configurations some actions will take slightly longer. For example, networks of 100-200 devices may take 30-60 seconds for all devices to be discovered.
- Microflex Wireless Software and Shure SystemOn should not be installed on the same computer. SystemOn users can continue using a web browser to access a SystemOn installation.
- When monitoring an MXWAPT channel which utilizes both a Primary and a Secondary mic on the same channel, there is no auto-switch functionality to display the on-air microphone.
- Workaround: manually select the Primary or Secondary mic to display.
- Microflex Wireless Software must be restarted after Shure Designer 4.3 is uninstalled.
- Issues with the Dante interface may cause discovery issues with Microflex Wireless Software
- In the JDECT band (Japan only), there is an “RF carrier number mismatch” message missing as a potential reason for link failure. Displayed message is “Link Failure”.
Notes
- Microflex Wireless Software 1.0.0 is compatible with the following device firmware versions:
- MXWAPT2, MXWAPT4, MXWAPT8 FW 9.0.4
- MXWANI4, MXWANI8 FW 9.0.4
- MXWNCS2, MXWNCS4, MXWNCS8 FW 9.0.4
- MXW1, MXW2, MXW6, MXW8 FW 9.0.4
- SCM820 1.3.3
- Requires Windows version 10 64-bit
- Requires macOS 10.14 “Mojave”, 10.15 “Catalina”
- At the time of this release, macOS 11.0 “Big Sur” has not been tested

Important
- Before upgrading Designer versions, it’s recommended to export project files to back them up.
- If you encounter an installer failure during upgrade, allow the uninstaller to finish, then restart installation.
- In order to push from virtual devices to online devices, or vice versa, the virtual device and online version must be on the same version. For example, new virtual devices created in Designer 4.3 are on version 4.3.X; those virtual devices can only be associated with online devices that are also on version 4.3.X.
- Designer 4.3 is not backwards compatible with earlier versions of Designer. The database will not be maintained upon downgrading, and Designer 4.3 files cannot be imported into earlier versions of Designer.
- Designer may not allow downgrading of some P300s due to a platform update to support future functionality and USB improvements.
Bug Fixes
- ‘System not available' screen shows when opening Designer depending on Microsoft VC++ Redistributable versions installed on the computer
- Installer error may occur if PowerShell is not available or is corrupted
- Microphone lobe does not hold on to last set position intermittently
- When saving and applying location presets in Live Mode, then attempting to export the project, export project will fail
Known Issues
- With more than 20 devices in location or 60 on the network, some actions will take longer due to increased network traffic.
- When a device is being firmware updated, it will disappear and reappear in Designer.
- When importing a Designer preset file into the MXA910 web application, attempts to immediately export that file out of the web application will fail if it is not first loaded and saved to the MXA910.
- When soloing a channel on an MXA310, all channels will show as gated on
- When one or more devices in a location are locked by Dante Domain Manager or Dante Device Lock, operations that affect Dante settings may be unreliable, such as audio routing, pushing virtual to online devices, or enabling audio encryption
- Changing channel count of virtual IMX-Room device does not reset audio settings
- When disassociating online devices from virtual devices multiple times, Optimize may not create expected routes; add new virtual devices and Optimize
- Indications that show on the bottom of the Coverage map page may persist longer than expected
- Forgetting a cross-subnet MXA910 on firmware version 4.1.41 may result in the device being rediscovered; close and re-open Designer or reboot device to see it as forgotten
- When factory resetting a device from Online Devices > Device window, then attempting to add that device to a Location that’s already open and initializing it, the Location and Device window will close; reopen to continue working
- Users with Astrill VPN installed will not be able to launch the app successfully; contact Shure support for help
- When using IntelliMix Room, Designer may show a red dot and invalid software version for that device after installation. Close and re-open Designer or reboot the machine running IntelliMix Room to fix the issue.
- Mute Sync will not work between P300 devices running version 4.2 and 4.3 firmware. Please make sure to update all P300s in a system to version 4.3
Notes
- Designer and SystemOn cannot be installed on the same machine

Improvements
- Bug fixes
Known Issues
- A small percentage of users may receive a numerical error message while recording, such as “-1” or “66570.” These messages occur when there was an error writing to the device and are related to Apple’s new file system (APFS). One of these errors can occur even if your device has plenty of remaining storage. We recommend clearing up your device storage from the Settings screen, and if that doesn’t resolve the issues, doing a full restore from iTunes, consisting of backing up your device, wiping/restoring to factory settings, and restoring from the backup.
- If you monitor your recordings with Bluetooth earphones, you may hear artifacts, such as noise, while monitoring. If this occurs, we recommend changing the sample rate of your recordings. Some products may produce artifacts at 44.1 kHz, while others may do so for 48 kHz recordings. Please keep in mind that even if you hear artifacts while monitoring, they will not be present in the recordings themselves.
- When connected to iPad Pro via a USB-C cable, the MV88+ will pass audio and gain can be adjusted. However, the MOTIV apps will only display ‘external mic’, and the settings screen will not be available. Shure recommends using another device to configure the settings before using with iPad Pro. No adjustments can be made in real time (except gain) on the Shure MOTIV apps when using an iPad Pro.
